Somali Bantu & Sudanese Tutoring Program

Every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 p.m.  to 5:30 p.m., volunteers from OPPC tutor Somali Bantu and Sudanese refugee children who are relocated refugees to Buffalo.  The tutoring program covers both academic subjects for the children and life skills for children and parents that help in their transition to life in the United States.

Friends of Night People

Friends of Night People is a non-profit organization that serves dinner to the homeless and poor in the Buffalo area.  On the third Wednesday of every month, OPPC prepares a meal and serves it at FONP.   Volunteers are always needed to donate food, prepare the meal at OPPC, and/or go with the group to FONP to serve the meal.  Volunteers meet at OPPC at 3:45 p.m. and return at 7:30 p.m.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, non-demomination Christian housing organization.   Through volunteer labor, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple

decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families.  On the fourth Saturday of the month, OPPC sends a team to work on a Habitat house.  We leave the church at 8:30 a.m. and are home by 3:30 p.m.  Particular building skills are not necessary.  Habitat work site leaders will teach volunteers how to do anything that needs to be done.  Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

The Interfaith Hospitality Network program brings shelter, meals and support services to families without homes.  OPPC serves as a host congregation to homeless families in our area with other churches participating as the Southtowns Clusters.  Four to five times a year, families stay in Fellowship Hall. Volunteers are needed to provide meals, entertainment and homework assistance for children and to stay overnight.
