Sunday Morning
One Worship Service at 10:30am
Baby Care (infant-3yrs old) 10:15-11:45am
This website is a window into the life and ministry of the Orchard park Presbyterian Church, an organization of the Presbyterian Church (USA). While this site contains a wealth of information about our church, its programs and ministries, we believe strongly in the saying, "there's nothing like being here." And so we invite you to visit us on a Sunday morning, to attend one of our many programs during the week or to become a member of this communitiy of faith.
OPPC is a caring, welcoming congregation committed to spiritual growth. We are an active congregation, understanding ourselves to be the hands and feet of Christ. We reach out to our community while maintaining connections with our sisters and brothers around the world.
We are sustained in our life together by the ever present Spirit of God. We invite you to come and experience that Presence for yourself.
The Rev. Dr. Richard L. Young
Head of Staff
REV. RICHARD YOUNG, Head of Staff of OPPC, is currently on sabbatical. Rev. Young will return to his pastoral duties on October 1. His first Sunday back in the pulpit will be October 3, World Communion Sunday. All pastoral concerns should be shared with Rev. Allyn Foster, and/or communicated through the church office. Rev. Ed Sprague is currently Moderator of Session. Rev. Sprague can be reached through the church office or at ed@oppchurch.org.
An update from The Young Family in Africa: July 6, 2010
After spending several days in Nairobi, the capitol of Kenya, we are now in Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya. Kisumu is located on the eastern shore of lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world (lake Erie is number 12). We went on for a boat ride this morning and saw several groups of hippos, close enough to see the hairs on their snouts! Kisumu is where Kelsey Moore (granddaughter of Joan Holl) has been for more than a year working with a soccer program for children. We hope to see Kelsey later in our trip. On Wednesday, July 7, we will travel by car to the village of Hamisi where Crossroads Springs School/Orphanage is located. We will need to buy provisions for our stay - rice, pasta, peanut butter, canned Tuna, and bottled water. The house we are staying in does have electricity but no refrigerator. The presence of extreme wealth alongside widespread poverty is hard to compute. One slum in Nairobi has over 1 million people with no electricity, roads, or infrastructure of any kind. This in the capitol city where government ministers are the highest paid public servants anywhere in the world. The political problems here are immense. Education is highly valued but resources are scarce. A typical elementary school class will have upwards of 120 students with one teacher. We are taking it all in and learning a great deal. We appreciate all your prayers and good wishes!
With love, the Youngs.
