Supper Series

Fall Supper Series

A Fall Supper Series will be on Wednesdays, September 23 & 30, October 7, 14, & 21 from 6 to 7:30 pm in the Reception Room. Beginning with a light dinner at 6 pm ($6 per person/$15 limit per family) followed by a program led by Rev. Young on the Gary Chapman book God Speaks Your Love Language – How To Feel And Reflect God’s Love. All are welcome to come to 1 or all 5 sessions to learn how to become more deeply connected with God and those around them. Plan to come now and bring a friend! Childcare will be provided in the MDO Nursery and there will be a program for children (Pre-K through 5th grade.)

Lenten Supper Series

The Lenten season begins with a Mardi Gras, followed by an Ash Wednesday Service on February 17, 2010. For the next five Wednesdays we offer a program with a light supper at 6:00 p.m. followed by a program that encourages creating space for God during the week with the idea of "taking up" rather than "giving up".

Sunday Morning Education

From September through May, we offer adult education classes that cover a variety of topics including Bible studies, Parenting, Contemporary and Social Justice issues. Informal group discussions are generated by book, video, and lecture based presentations.

Classes
  • Parenting class, led by Lisa Breth, will use The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman.  Mary Wolf will lead a two-week class on parent/child personality traits and how they affect the dynamics of parenting.
  • A six-week video series, Simplify Your Life, from the very funny and dynamic Tony Campolo will be led by Doug McMahon.
Book and Discussion Groups

We have the following groups meeting regularly:

Monday Morning Women’s Book/Bible Study meets 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on October 5 & 19. They are currently about half way through the book What Eve Didn’t Tell Us: Sex, Casseroles and a Life of Faith. Bring your own bag lunch and let these women introduce you to this delightful book! Contact Linda Babcock for more information.

Thursday Morning Men’s Bible Study meets at 6:30 a.m. every other week in the Conference Room. Contact Rev. Young for more information.

Monthly Book Club is a chance to have a cup of coffee with friends who enjoy reading good books. We will meet at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room for an all-ages discussion of what really matters.

The next two meetings and the books they will discuss are:

  • The Alchemist, by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho, is an international classic that has been translated into 56 languages. On October 22, this sweetly exotic tale will come to life for young and old alike, based on a truly satisfying read for those seeking inspiration of the purest sort.
  • The CuriousIncident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon is our book selection for November 19.
  • Pulitzer Prize winner Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri for our January book of choice.

NEW THIS FALL - Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Univeristy

Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University is a biblically based 13 week accountability class that trains congregations and the community to manage their resources.  Dave Ramsey, via DVD, presents each lesson, followed by a small group discussion that will be led by a new member, Joe Seebald.  Classes will be either Monday or Tuesday evenings from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. beginning Monday, September 21.  Each participant/family unit is required to purchase a FPU membership kit ($99.51 - church rate), which includes the workbook, forms, and all 13 weeks of Dave Ramsey’s class on DVD’s.  The cost of the kits needs to be paid for (with a check made payable to OPPC with "FPU kit" in the memo section) by Thursday, September 10.

Classes will meet on some Mondays and some Tuesdays, from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. in The Meeting Place on September 21 and 28, October 6, 13, 20, 26, November 2, 10, 16, 23, and 30, and December 7 and 14.

During this life-changing course, participants will learn:

  • To put together a monthly spending plan that really works!
  • The step-by-step process for getting out of debt for good!
  • How to set financial goals and really communicate about money and much more!

This is a wonderful opportunity that several other churches in the area have found expremely timely and beneficial. Please join us! You can find out more by contacting Joe Seebald at 912-3602 or at joeseebald@yahoo.com or call 888-22PEACE.
